The Mental Health Nursing Department is an important unit within the College of Nursing. Established in the academic year 2004–2005, the department prepares students to provide safe and compassionate care for individuals with mental health and psychiatric disorders.
Students learn therapeutic communication, observation skills, and the principles of professional behavior needed to support people with mental illness. The core principles of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing include:
Accepting the patient as they are.
Using self-awareness and self-understanding as therapeutic tools.

Providing reassurance in an appropriate and supportive way.
Department Vision
To prepare nursing students to improve the lives of individuals living with mental illness by promoting emotional well-being, supporting families, and delivering effective mental health care across all age groups—children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.
